"Someday another phase of the Secret Doctrine will be given and the significance of the Heart of God and its vibratory quality of love will be presented, and will be seen as the attractive agent producing meaning, evolutionary possibility and coherence and this underlying the created manifested world." The Dawning 4th Mountain School
Fourth Fundamental: Sound
We are told in the ancient wisdom teachings, that there are seven secrets that are revealed to humanity as it evolves towards perfection. Every practicing occultist, at some point in their development, will ask the question, what is the nature of these revelations and how can they be subjectively experienced? Let us review a statement by the Tibetan that can bring clarity to this difficult subject. This quote will set the theme for The Dawning 4th Mountain School. The quote is extracted from Letters on Occult Meditation, pg.50, entitled “Letter 4: Use of the Sacred Word in Meditation.”
“The subject that we are to deal with today is of such profundity and of such vital moment that your shrinking from even considering it is exceedingly natural. No matter what we may say upon the matter, we can but touch the fringe of it, and the depths of what will be left unsaid may seem so great, that the data communicated may assume too small proportions.
First, I seek to lay down certain basic postulates which, though realized as mental concepts, may yet be too deep for easy comprehension. These postulates are five in number. Five out of a number too vast for your apprehension. These postulates themselves are based on certain fundamental facts, and these facts (seven in number) are not as yet all comprehended. H.P.B. touched on three in his statement of the fundamentals of the Secret Doctrine. Four yet remain hid, though the fourth is emerging somewhat through the study of psychology and mental science. The other three fundamentals will emerge during the next three rounds. This round will see the apprehension of the fourth fundamental.
These postulates are as follows:
• That all that exists is based on sound or on the Word.
• That differentiation is the result of sound.
• That on each plane the Word has a different effect.
• That according to the note of the Word, or the vibration of the sound, will the work of building-in or casting-out be accomplished.
• That the one threefold Word has seven keys, and these seven keys have their own subtones.” (1-3-7-49)
The New Psychology for the 21st century, or this dawning 4th spoken of by D.K., relates to far more esoteric relationships than simply how these seven qualities of Fohat (the seven Rays) mold and shape the threefold personality ray structure of any human being. (Physical-etheric, astral and mental). The New Psychology is the psychology of the Soul itself. It is the study and recognition of how the Soul, lives and moves, and has its own being as a fully autonomous life of light, sound and vibration on its own plane. The Solar Angel is working out its own purpose, which is essentially ashramic in nature and cannot be understood until the third initiation. When psychological inquiry into the nature of the personality and its wide range of equipment is finally extended onto the soul level, then the essential nature of Fohat, (Cosmic Electricity) will be recognized
The door of initiation is electrical in nature. The disciple cannot pass through that door until the magnetic substance in his three lower bodies vibrates in unison to the electrical portal through which he must pass. Through the law of sympathetic vibration, “like attracts like” and is the basis of all invo-evocation. Sound is the electrical medium through which this magic works, and its attributes of color and vibration must be studied from a scientific point of view. History has seen many mystical, religious, poetic and artistic approaches to deity. The time has come for the seventh ray to do its magical work here in the West, and make a contribution for which all previous efforts are foundational. This new 7th ray revelation will be aided by the study and comprehension of what we will call the new “Super-human physics” for lack of a better word.
A Treatise on Cosmic Fire is a manual for this advanced work. It is a master outline for disciples in preparation for the third initiation along the 1.3 5.7 ray lines. This Treatise gives the basic structure to the electrical work the disciple must undergo and comprehend. The most esoteric statement enunciated by the occultist during the initiatory experience is that “All is energy”, that the essential nature of all existence is fohat, the power that links mind to matter, subjective life to all objective manifestations. Men live literally in an ocean of devic and elemental electrical life that must be mastered for them to be freed as prisoners of the planet. The Tibetan tells us that we must learn the techniques of Love and Will for it is only through their development that we shall gain the power to direct safely the lesser builders. The Deva Lords and Angelic Hosts that reside on lofty levels will only divulge their secrets of initiation and occult building to those who wield the Scepter and the Rod of First Ray of Power. (See Articles Devas 1&2, Science of Initiation)
Only those disciples with a flaming heart, a keen intelligence and an indomitable will, can know the freedom of “High Places”. Christ’s greatest work “The way of the higher evolutions” has not yet found a place of expression in the world today. A quote from Cosmic Fire page 714 will qualify much of this group work.
“If this Treatise serves no other purpose than to direct the attention of the more scientific and philosophical students to the study of force or energy in man and in groups, and to interpret man and the human family in terms of electrical phenomenon, much good will have been accomplished. The polarity of a man, of a group, and of a congery of groups, the polarity of the planets and their relationship to each other, and of one principle to another, the polarity of the subtler vehicles, and the scientific application of the laws of electricity to the totality on the physical plane will bring about a revolution upon the planet second only to that effected at the time of individualization”.
This group work that we are outlining will be white magic fused with the best that modern science is discovering daily. Too often, the student of the ancient wisdom is unable to see that science and true occult religion are in fact, very compatible. One works from the center outwardly, while the other from the periphery to the center. There are many conventional theories that are given in the science of electricity and its related principals and laws that parallel some of the deeper, and more esoteric, truths that are attempting to emerge at this time.
See: Ohm's law and the science of electricity.
Vol. 5 of the Tibetan’s works, The Rays and the Initiations, will also be used extensively in this work. This is a manual for those disciples in preparation for the third initiation along the second ray line. The outlines in this book indicate the nature of the subjective work that must be accomplished, such as the extensive use of group symbols, formulas and hints. These grand outlines can only be accomplished by groups immersing themselves into the all-pervading Sound and Light of Deity. The Tibetan clearly asks the student to reflect upon which spiritual sound or color they are responsive to. Sound and light are the great unifiers, and will be perceived first as the disciple’s personality note and its unique coloring. Then, the apprehension of the egoic word and soul light will emerge, followed by the Sound of the Will and the Master’s unique note and ashramic coloring. Tuning the inner or etheric ear can begin at the earlier initiations and culminates right up through monadic perception.
Laya, Nada and Mantra Yoga are specialized branches of the new Agni Yoga that was prophesized to emerge as we enter the Age of Aquarius and will give many insights into the science of Triangles and Esoteric Astrology. Agni Yoga or the Yoga of Fire has for its eventual goal triadic perceptions, or as the Tibetan describes it, the ability to slip through the eye of the needle into Monadic Identification.
At some point, as we are told in the ancient wisdom teachings, we must discover in the meditative state, the “interior directional sound” that will allow us to follow the Antahkarana bridge (in its two phases) from which we first descended, back to the source of “All Life.” This training has for its final goal, the preparation of those initiates who will one day make their decision to follow one of the 7 Cosmic Paths.
The 3rd Cosmic Path has particular relevance to the Dawning 4th group. Those who work in this area must have a special aptitude in color and sound. Not color and sound as man understands the term, but one that will eventually lead to “Cosmic etheric vision and septenary clairvoyance” to quote from the Master’s achieves.
This work which is done primarily in Devic substance is controlled and directed from the Will aspect of the Soul and the One Monadic life. The Tibetan has said that we must put into our hands, the clues that will help us find the method by which electrical impulse, demonstrated as sound, heat, light and motion, is controlled and utilized. We must discover the source of the initial impulse from extra-systemic centers, and discover its basic rhythm. (See Dynamic Symbols 1, 2 and 3, as well as the commentary on the Rays and Planes found at the links given at the end of this paper.)
This advanced work is not accomplished by dedication to purification, intellectual study or service. All of these preparatory and foundational accomplishments will have already been achieved in previous cycles, or recapitulated in this current incarnation. This work is in the nature of meditation and its use to invoke and assimilate Occult Fire. The Dawning 4th School has nothing to do with any occult university or existing college. Its home is on the higher levels of the etheric plane. The Dawning 4th School is an experimental attempt to orientate certain disciples towards the 3rd Cosmic Path, however limited and tenuous it may be at this time. The interest in the 7 Cosmic Paths will be a natural area of focus in the coming cycles. Just as the soul and personality rays, and the Master’s ashram to which we are affiliated, are of interest in this present cycle.
The requirements for this work are so stringent and demanding that it may take a long time to find qualified disciples who are ready for this advanced type of work. Because many students will have their own groups to which they are responsible and many diverse fields of interest, they will be linked through telepathic contact and certain electronic connections.
Meditation is the means, and meditation is the method. Letters on Occult Meditation by D.K. gives the curriculum and the requirements for this advanced work. This treatise will be used to see the big picture and understand what the Hierarchy and Shamballa are attempting to impress upon advanced humanity.
The mind must understand this work and be trained as a reliable recording agent. Yet all the technicalities, principles, and laws that can be enumerated are only foundational and can become an obstacle if meditation is not the first and foremost discipline in this work. Meditation for 1-3 hours daily will be a prerequisite. Revelation at this advanced stage can only occur when the mind is our servant and not our master. This means when the mind renders itself receptive to the soul, and later to the upper spiritual triad, and has taken its attention off the personality with its vast array of achievements. At the third initiation, the greatest hindrance to more progress, is the luminosity and radiance of the mind itself; a mind that is so powerful, integrated and in control, that it can paradoxically shut out the full blaze of Buddhi and Atmic light. Crucifixion by Occult Fire at the fourth initiation is precisely that. A giving up and relinquishing all for the Love and Will of God.
When speaking about the advanced occult and esoteric schools that will emerge in the future, DK had this to say.
“The rules for admission into the advanced school are far more esoteric and fewer in number. The pupils will be chosen from out of the preparatory school, after having passed through the graded courses. But selection will depend not on the mental development and the assimilation of concrete knowledge, but upon the inner comprehension and the occult understanding of the student, upon the quality of the tone of his life as it sounds forth in the inner world, upon the brilliance of the indwelling light, and upon his power in service” (LOM 322)
If love is not sufficiently developed, the great Kundalini force seated within the base of the spine cannot be stimulated safely nor can the great Deva Lord Agni do its magical work of lifting the disciple out of the tomb of matter. Agni Yoga has for its extended goal, the circulating of the inner fires and the raising of the Kundalini to the highest head centers where the greater and lesser fires of matter and spirit can fully blend and fuse.
Work of this nature is not for the meek of heart and can only be done safely within the protective vibration, and under the tutelage, of those who have done this specialized work in previous cycles. There are many safer and less arduous routes to self-knowledge but few that can compare to the speed at which this transmutation will take place when the divine alchemical fires burn brightly and unhindered. Kundalini, the great galvanizing agent of the third initiation and afterwards, will bring liberation to practitioners of true yoga, but bondage to fools. This great and mysterious Serpent Power should never be the object of occult disciplines solely for its own sake. When the Great Mother’s awesome power is felt stirring by its own natural inclination, specific instruction and guidance should be made available to those who have demonstrated this is their next step, and that they are ready for this final phase of the divine initiatory experience.
Without getting lost or dominated by a maze of intellectual details this advanced work will be guided by the new teachings in the Science of Electricity and Super Human Physics outlined in my previous publications, Dynamic Symbols 1, 2 and 3. Group meditations and rituals, which will take place mainly on the mental plane will give the student direct exposure to his or her own unique ray qualities and the inner work of the Ashram. The most important aspect of this work can only be conveyed orally or telepathically and in a one on one environment. Physical proximity of its members has the potential to cause additional stimulation for this work to go forward if certain requirements are met. The idea of spiritual or occult communities grounded on the physical plane has not been explored in its more advanced forms.
Many disciples await the Externalization of the Hierarchy and the Reappearance of the Great Lord of Love assuming they have yet to make their appearance. Is it possible, however, that some of the advanced vanguard of this Externalization program may, in fact, already be here. They may simply be waiting for those disciples and initiates to recognize them and to begin the cooperation and support commensurate with their high level of spiritual polarization.
When the time is right and the preparatory work of personality integration and soul alignment is complete, this advanced work will go forward according to law. It should be noted that at this stage of development it is the disciple’s responsibility to use the will aspect of both the personality and the soul to become an “intruding agent of Light.” All advanced occult work of this nature is facilitated by the disciple’s need to force himself into the periphery of those lives of which he presently knows nothing.
Let us explore in greater detail what the Tibetan meant by the curious phrase “intruding agent of light.” Although all 7 Cosmic Paths are qualified by the emergence of the Divine Will in some form, the idea of high psychism and intuition finds its natural place of recognition along the line of the 3rd Cosmic Path of development. The Tibetan qualifies the newer approaches beginning to emerge in the most advanced of the race today saying that a special aptitude for color and sound will be required and will be a natural part of its unfolding influence. When the ring-pass-not of our solar life is penetrated, the initiate is required to tune his etheric ear and know which of the directional sounds he is capable of responding to.
“There must be the training of the exact intuitive.”
“The intruding agent of light (as the Old Commentary calls these adventuring intuitives) is recognized as one to whom can be entrusted some revelation, some new impartation of truth, some significant expansion from a seed of truth already given to the race. He then sees a vision, hears a voice, registers a message, or—highest form of all—he becomes a channel of power and light to the world, a conscious Embodiment of divinity, or a Custodian of a divine principle. These forms constitute true revelation, imparted or embodied; they are still rare but will increasingly be developed in humanity.
7. The next few stages are called, in preparation for the revelation:
a. The relinquishing of the Higher Way.
b. The return to the Angel, or a refocusing in the soul.
c. A pause or interlude for constructive thinking, under the influence of the Angel.
d. The turning of the mind to the formulation of those forms of thought which must embody the revelation.
e. Then again a pause which is called "the pause preceding presentation.
8. The presentation of the revelation or of the imparted truth and its precipitation into the world of illusion comes next. In that world of illusion, it undergoes the "fiery ordeal" wherein "some of the fire within that which is revealed wings its way back to the source from whence it came; some of it serves to destroy the revealer, and some to burn those who recognize the revelation." This is a phase of Agni Yoga which, as you can see, is only for those who can penetrate beyond the Angel into the place "where fire dwelleth," and where God, the Presence, functions as a consuming fire and waits for the hour of total revelation. This is a symbolic rendering of a great truth. In the case of the individual initiate, the third initiation, the Transfiguration, marks the consummation of the process. Only glory then is seen: only the voice of the Presence is heard and union with the past, the present and the future is reached.
9. The succumbing of the revelation to the prevailing illusion, its descent into the world of glamour, and its subsequent disappearance as a revelation and its emergence as a doctrine. But, in the meantime, humanity has been helped and led forward; the intuitives continue to work and the inflow of that which is to be revealed never ceases.
This basic technique underlies both primary and secondary revelations. In the case of the first, the time cycle is long; in the second, the time cycle is short. A very good instance of this process is demonstrated by one of the secondary points of revelation in connection with the teaching which emanated from the Hierarchy (the Custodian of secondary revelations, as Shamballa is of primary) fifty years ago and which took the form of The Secret Doctrine. H.P.B. was the "penetrating, sensing, appropriating intuitive." The revelation she conveyed followed the accustomed routine of all secondary revelation from the Source to the outer plane. There the minds of men, veiled by illusion and clouded by glamour, formulated it into an inelastic doctrine, recognizing no further revelation and holding steadily—many of the theosophical groups—that The Secret Doctrine was a final revelation and that naught must be recognized but that book and naught deemed correct but their interpretations of that book. If they are correct, then evolutionary revelation is ended and the plight of humanity is hard indeed.” (Glamour: A World Problem, pg. 183 -185)
Even the neophyte upon the way of the intuition can begin to develop the ability to recognize that which the lower mind cannot give him. Some thought of revealing potency, to be used for the helping of the many, may drop into his mind; some new light upon an old truth may penetrate, releasing the truth from the trammels of orthodoxy, thus illumining his consciousness. This he must use for all and not for himself alone. Little by little, he learns the way into the world of the intuition; day by day, and year by year, he becomes more sensitive to divine Ideas and more apt in appropriating them wisely for the use of his fellowmen.
The hope of the world and the dispelling of illusion lies in the development of intuitives and their conscious training. There are many natural intuitives whose work is a blend of the higher psychism with flashes of true intuition. There must be the training of the exact intuitive. Paralleling their intuitive response and their effort to precipitate their intuition into the world of human thought, there must also be the steady development of the human mind so that it can grasp and apprehend what is projected, and in this too lies the hope of the race.” (Glamour: A World Problem 183-4)
No claims can be made concerning this work. No special secrets or privileges will be imparted. No special instructions from the Masters. In a Loving supportive environment, the student will find out for himself, the nature of Fire and the route back along the Antahkarana Bridge first built upon entry into incarnation. To those who are ready, the work that has been outlined in these few brief papers will become alive and evoke a deep sense of response. To those who have chosen other forms of service these words will mean little and should be disregarded.
The main topics of discussion that will accompany this meditational work will be the 5 postulates outlined by the Tibetan in the introduction to this short commentary.
• That all that exists is based on sound or on the Word.
• That differentiation is the result of sound.
• That on each plane the Word has a different effect.
• That according to the note of the Word or the vibration of the sound, will the work of building-in or casting-out is accomplished.
• That the one threefold Word has seven keys and these seven keys have their own sub-tones”.
Those who respond to this call will require a special aptitude in Laya and Mantra yoga. See the commentary The Rays and the Planes and Form in Meditation by the author.
This same outline that the Tibetan gives for the importance of the “Word” equally applies to the Will and its relationship to the Sound or the Divine Presence. We know light is the privilege and great unifier at the 3rd initiation and it’s at this same initiation that the One Monadic Sound begins to peal forth. It is not until the 4th and 5th initiations that this Sound grows and matures in volume. So stupendous is this Monadic Sound that it is instrumental in the eventual disintegration of the causal body.
In addition to these five postulates we will explore the following subjects.
• Occult electricity and its relationship to.
• The New World Religion and the New World Order.
• Kundalini and the Deva Lord Agni.
• Triangles, the Vortex and Vacuum.
• OM, AUM Initiation and the Word and Sound.
• Mantras, words of power, group formulas.
• The New occult schools intermediate and advanced.
• The Old Commentary; where most of the advanced teachings in Raja Yoga are given in symbolic and cryptic form.
• The second phase of the six stages of building the Antahkarana Bridge and its relationship to Identification with Will and the higher evolutions.
• Seventh Ray ceremony and ritual.
• Shamballa and the technique of the Will.
• The Devic and the Angelic Kingdoms. *(1)
• Fohat as it demonstrates as heat, light, color, sound and motion.
• Agni, the Yoga of fire.
• Laya Yoga, the new teachings on the fiery force centers.
• The evolution of the senses, and the higher psychism.
• Esoteric Astrology and the work with triple charts and superimpositions as outlined by the work of SDP
Psychic qualities of development are of little interest to the majority of occult students at this time due to their awareness of the dangers involved to those who are overly polarized in their astral bodies. In the Aquarian cycle we are now entering, this work will fall clearly under the influence and control of the higher mind and will reveal many new and creative opportunities for planetary healing. Note that I said planetary and not personal. It’s taken for granted that those who are seriously interested in this line of approach will have done the important, but preliminary, purification and personal integration.
The ability to work with color and sound has many levels and relationships and it is not until the 4th initiation according to DK that one can become truly adept at the significance of these two qualities and truly wield the divine law in the three lower worlds of human evolution.
The next quote taken from an outline on the 7 Cosmic Paths by DK indicates the importance of these two attributes, color and sound, and their importance for preparation in treading this 3rd Cosmic Path of training for Planetary Logo’s. No doubt a long way off as man understands time and for those reading these words.
“Each Chohan of a Ray takes a certain number of initiates of the sixth Initiation and trains them specially for this work. Special aptitude in colour and sound predisposes the choice, and the ability to work with "psyche," or with the Spirits in evolution, marks a man out for this high post. We might say that the planetary Logoi are the divine psychologists, and therefore in the training for this post psychology is the basic subject, though it is a psychology inconceivable as yet to us.” (TCF 1254-55)
The last public series of presentations the author of this commentary made was in 1997-2000. It became apparent, however, that advanced work of the nature just outlined required a more stable residency than had been the case. Consistency and repetition are key to this seventh ray method of integration and work. With the numerous charts, tabulations, symbols, and inventions, previously dispersed across 4 states, now assembled in one place, along with the use of electronic communications tools, many opportunities are opening up to contact other individuals and groupss in new and creative ways.
It became clear that simply imparting occult facts and leading brief meditations was no longer sufficient and that these earlier forums were not paralleling my deeper, dynamic immersion into a wider and more inclusive subjective life. I have received many inquiries over the years concerning many occult subjects that I have never adequately responded to. The time was not right, nor was I ready. This advanced subjective work that I have been in preparation for, and herein outlined, has required a certain amount of seclusion. The Tibetan clearly stated we may lawfully withdraw from our usual service activities only if it is done with the intent of stimulating our higher centers and initiating a more advanced and a more esoteric type of service to come in the future.
One of the preparatory projects and groups I was involved in, “Aquarian World Servers” from 1975-89, was initiated to compare and synthesize what HPB and AAB said on color and sound and their relationships to the different centers; cosmic, solar, and planetary, as well as to the individual, during the initiatory experience. This present commentary and a number of papers to follow will begin to address this important area of exploration in more detail. I am now working with several bridging groups, the WRTC as well as the ILWSC and several others which show the potential for this advanced type of work. The author of this short commentary and introduction to the Dawning 4th School is soon to complete a book on the Devas and the Kundalini Fire.
Many of the advanced souls coming into incarnation at this time historically may not need to memorize legions of isolated facts, or compile endless minutiae to prepare themselves to pass through the Divine initiatory experience, which the higher mind and intuition having already been developing in previous cycles.
The highest teachings of Raja Yoga according to DK are given in the Old Commentary, although excerpts can be found scattered throughout his many books. They are a curious blend of poetic-prose-symbolic renderings similar to the word-pictures given to us in the Agni Yoga teachings by Master M. This can also be said of the new third phase teachings that will summarize all past lower mind teachings into one crucible of intuitive fiery perception.
The symbols included in this paper are not meant to be decorative or artistic. They are invocative in nature and convey higher truths when properly meditated upon. All lower fifth ray information must eventually be elevated to higher method of communication. Symbols according to D.K. and H.P.B. can be interpreted on seven different levels. Perceived on the mental plane and above, esoteric symbols are composed of color, sound and geometry and are the language of initiates. These advanced symbols are creative and must be mastered by all those disciples in preparation for initiation.
Symbols are the universal language and cut across all sectarian lines and cultures and form the basis of a new Aquarian science. Symbols are also the universal language of initiates and how they communicate on the inner planes amongst themselves. This is particularly true when individuals or a group approach the 3rd initiation. All of the numerous details, cosmological outlines and teachings of the lower mind can be compressed into an abstract intuitive language of symbols. Just as each individual is recognized by a certain geometric figure seen clairvoyantly with certain sounds and colors manifesting by the Master on the inner planes, the same can also be said of groups who fall under a similar classification. At the center of all animated lives lies the black hole or Laya point, out of whose throat pours an infinite variety of dancing, geometric forms that make up all of the rays, planes, bodies and centers, be they microcosmic or macrocosmic.
So important is the study of symbols that DK has this to say on the subject.
"In the first instance, the objective of the study of symbolism is to enable the student to sense its quality and to contact that vibrant something which lies behind that aggregate of line, color and form of which the symbol is composed.
To some types of people this study is relatively easy; to the majority it is not easy at all, thereby indicating a lack that must be supplied by the use of those faculties at the present dormant. It is always distasteful to arouse the latent faculties and requires an effort and a determination not to be swayed by personality reactions. To many it is not easily apparent how the penetration into the meaning of a symbol can provide a means whereby the dormant buddhic or intuitional faculty can be brought into functioning activity. It is a delicate art, this art of symbol reading, of "spiritual reading," as our ancient master, Patanjali, Â calls it. This power to interpret symbols ever precedes true revelation. The comprehension of a truth for which a line or a series of lines composing a symbolic form may stand is not all that has to be done. A good memory may remind you that a series of lines forming a triangle or a series of triangles signifies the Trinity, or any series of triplicates within the macrocosmic or microcosmic manifestation. But that activity and accuracy of the memory will do naught to awaken the dormant brain cells or call into play the intuition. It must be remembered (and here becomes evident the value of a certain amount of technical or academic occultism) that the plane whereon the intuition manifests and where the intuitional state of consciousness is active is that of the buddhic or intuitional plane. This plane is the higher correspondence of the astral or emotional plane, the plane of sensitive awareness through a felt identification with the object of attention or attraction. It becomes evident therefore that if the intuitional faculty is to be brought into activity through the study of symbols, the student must feel with, or be in some way identified with, the qualitative nature of the symbol, with the nature of that reality which the symbolic form veils. It is this aspect of symbolic reading that you are asked to study. The study of symbols tends to bring this about and, when carried out with faithfulness and diligence, will produce three effects:
1. It trains in the power to penetrate behind the form and to arrive at the subjective reality.
2. It tends to bring about a close integration between soul-mind-brain, and when that is brought about, the inflow of the intuition and, consequently, of illumination and truth becomes more rapidly possible.
3. It will put a strain upon certain unawakened areas in the brain and arouse into activity the brain cells there found, and this is the first stage in the experience of the aspirant. With the majority of true aspirants, the center between the eyebrows is awakened, whilst the center at the top of the head is vibrating very gently, but is not in full functioning activity. This higher center must be awakened more fully before aspirants can measure up to their full opportunity.
Students should ascertain, after due study of the form aspect, what the symbol is doing to them, what feeling it evokes, what aspirations it arouses, and what dreams, illusions, and reactions are consciously registered. This stage is an intermediate one between the exoteric reading of a symbol and the conceptual understanding. There is later another intermediate stage between conceptual understanding and esoteric comprehension and application. This latter stage is called "synthetic recognition." Having studied the form and become aware of its emotional significance, you pass to the stage of grasping the basic idea of the symbol, and from thence to a synthetic comprehension of its purpose. This leads to true esotericism which is the practical application of its living synthetic power to the springs of individual life and action." (Glamour: A World Problem, pg. 7-8)
These seven ray energies express the divine will in seven forms. They are:
Ray I—The will to initiate.
Ray II—The will to unify.
Ray III—The will to evolve.
Ray IV—The will to harmonize or relate.
Ray V—The will to act.
Ray VI—The will to cause.
Ray VII—The will to express.

There will be a special department of the Dawning 4th School that will use modern media and other electronic modes of communications to express and ground its inner subjective work in new and dynamic ways. Ancient Yogic truths, must, and will be connected with modern developments in the different sciences. In the coming cycles the initiations on the threshold will no longer be confined to small and select groups of disciples but will slowly find its way into the mainstream.
